Project Mosquitia began in the summer of 1997 after my first visit to the Honduran Mosquitia.  After subsequent visits to this and other locations in Honduras it was soon apparent that readilly available information regarding the herpetological diversity of this region was sorely needed.  Fortunately, there have been a number of recent publications and efforts made to document the natural history of Honduras.  A list of some of these publications can be found here.

The purpose of this website is to provide basic information regarding the biological diversity of the Honduran Mosquitia as well as other regions within Honduras.
Thank you for your interest in this site and if nothing else I hope that the information contained herein can at least be of use for an interesting diversion.

Sincerely,

Carl J. Franklin
